SAN FILI
San Fili is situated near to Cosenza in
a beautiful panoramic situation along the Tyrrhenian
coasts of Calabria.
History
It was cited for the first time in 1267 in a notarial and
became fief of the Archbishop of Cosenza. Then during 1445
it passed to the Adorno family. Later it became fief of the
Alarçon Mendoza family (1532) who ruled it until the
subversion of feudalism (1806).
The suburb was seat of a Rivendite Carbonare (Secret city
associations linked to the Carbonari movement which promoted
independent ideas) and participated in the Risorgimento and
Unitarian motions.
After the Unity of Italy (1861) the village became invested
with the migration beyond the ocean phenomenon.
A visit to the City
A visit to San Fili is accompanied with beautiful panoramic
views overlooking the surrounding territory and the Tyrrhenian
coasts of Calabria.
In the territory, among the narrow streets and stairways,
one will come across the SS. Annunziata Church, which already
existed during the XIII century, with a beautiful wooden choir
in its interior.
