A City of remote origins (the first documented settlements
were around the Villanovan times, 4th Century BC). The traces
of medieval roads, which begin at the centre and spread
out towards the doors of the old wall, still constitute
the main structure of the City today.
Bologna took on its characteristic look
during the 11th and 12th Centuries, with its first: noble
two-floored houses, containing typical wooden projections
supported by girders and trunks and by brackets and shelves;
also by the presence of the famous 180 towers. Those who
are missing are remembered by the towers of Garisendi and
Asinelli; the second one being constructed in 1109, elegantly
and prodigiously intact in its 97,6 metres in height...

The City of Emilia Romagna is situated along the directrices
of Via Emilia, between the Secchia and Panaro Rivers. It’s
the seat of a university and of a renowned and historical
Military Academy.
The Roman Cathedral is the symbol of the City of Modena:
dating back to 1099/1323, being projected by the architect
Lanfranco (his name, together with that of the sculptor
Wiligelmo, is remembered by a plaque of dedication placed
on the external wall of the building). The Cathedral and
its decoration are to be considered amongst the most highly
architectural expressions of Roman sculpture in Italy. The
Campanile, also known as The Ghirlandina, 88 metres in height,
and of a slim Gothic completion...

Parma, Capital for more than three centuries
of an important Duchy, has preserved numerous memories of
its noble past in: the splendid artistic monuments which
can be found in various museums, in its very lively cultural
traditions (the University of Parma is one of the oldest
in Italy, the local newspaper The Gazzetta di Parma, is
the oldest Italian newspaper (1735), musically (the City,
seat of Conservatory A. Boito and the Institute of Veridani
Studies). It also owes its fame as a great musical centre
to the excellent operatic competency of the passionate visitors
at the renowned Regio Theatre)..

Constructed to a rough polygonal design, with a rectangular
Piazza del Popolo (Square) in its centre, the city remained
enclosed within the ancient city walls for a long period;
there are still some traces remaining.
Decorated by Roman citizenship in ’89 BC, during the
last centuries of the Empire, it became politically important
and was chosen as the New Capital of the Western Empire
Ravenna could be considered amongst the
major European centres for examples of ancient mosaics,
their restoration and also of their contemporary production.
